Music, food for the soul.
I love music, it’s a constant in my life. There are songs that stay with me as loyal companions, there are songs that elicit emotions, songs that take me to a place, a moment in time… Songs that make me joyous, songs that make me dance. Each year as the Hottest 100 rolls around I begin to wonder if I’m getting too old for this… if I should be looking elsewhere for my music fix… and sometimes I even try, but I keep coming back. Then I give myself a slap and turn the volume up.
Here is my pick for the year – these are the ten songs I voted for. So, grab a drink, sit back & have a listen… and I’d love to know what your favourite songs of 2009 were too!
Regina Spektor - Laughing with
Angus and Julia Stone - And The Boys
Karen O and The Kids – All is Love
Sarah Blasko - No Turning Back

never too old for this! I love Hottest 100 time, many hot debates over bands over many cool drinks of beer. And so many of us differ not only in choice, but also in what constitutes a good song. My very stupid way of choosing is just to choose those songs that will not; will not! leave my head. Even when asked politely. I’m not a music person, but I find myself meeting them via Nuke and his wealth of muso/industry friends. So my list is rather bland and uneducated, but then again, I choose my Melb Cup horsey by the pretty silky colour combos, so why not choose songs by the way they Occupied my Mind. (bad REM insert, my apologies for humour that closely resembles a lowly pun)
my list:
Bertie Blackman – Thump
Cat Power – Amazing Grace
Decemberists, The – The Rake’s Song
Editors – Papillon
La Roux – In For The Kill
Mumford & Sons – Little Lion Man
Muse – Resistance
Regina Spektor – Folding Chair
Vampire Weekend – Cousins
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll

I have the WORST taste in music, so I’m not going to share it here, but I do love Little Birdy!

Well, I do still listen… but now my kids like to as well, they really have no idea of commercial radio! I did have a real moment of ‘Oh no I am too old’ when Robbie Buck left to go to grown up radio… but I love the music, and no other station compares

….and if you weren’t there to prompt me to follow this stuff my life would not be as rich. I’m so loving all of these songs. The kids and I listened to All is Love about 7 times in a row yesterday in the car. I’ve now sampled Vampire Weekend too and I like! Thanks so much for keeping those out of touch (ie ME!) in the loop.
PS I’m loving some Sia at the moment too x
